Way Out’s inspection services ensure our clients Low location lighting systemare installed and functioning in accordance with the governing standards:
- SOLAS 74 (as amended) – This is the governing mandate: The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) is an international maritime safety treaty which requires that ships comply with minimum safety standards (called out therein) in construction, evaluation, operation and maintenance. The SOLAS Convention in its successive forms is generally regarded as the most important of all international treaties concerning vessel safety, and specifically calls out the below Resolution (IMO 752.18) in relation to emergency evacuation;
- IMO 752 (18) International Maritime Organisation Guidelines for the evaluation, testing and application of Low Location Lighting on Passenger ships: this resolution was the initial standard, adopted in 1993, which specified guidelines respecting Low Location Lighting (“LLL”) on passenger vessels, per SOLAS 74. As international standards acceptable to the organisation, specifically respecting luminance testing requirements, were in development, ‘national standards acceptable to the Administration’ were applied as an interim measure; and
- ISO 15370: this standard was initially published in 2001, then updated in 2010. The original 2001 version was withdrawn 28 February 2011; subsequently, any ships evaluated should be in accordance with the new version. This standard specifies testing, installation and maintenance requirements of LLL, and is the standard to which all (non-naval) passenger ships should be in compliance.
